CBP's March 2006 Modernization Monthly Newsletter Discusses Making e-Manifest Usage Mandatory on a Port-by-Port Basis Later in 2006

e-Manifest usage to begin to become mandatory on port-by-port basis later in 2006. CBP states that it expects to begin making electronic manifest (e-Manifest) usage mandatory on a port-by-port basis later in 2006.

CBP states that notices will be posted to the CBP Web site and the Federal Register.

CBP notes that the e-Manifest capability is available to truck carriers at all ports using the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). According to CBP, there are currently 39 ports in the states of Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, and Washington and in May 2006, CBP expects to deploy ACE at four ports in California, as well as San Luis, Arizona.

e-Manifest certifications increase. CBP states that the number of companies certified to file e-Manifests with CBP via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) increased from 41 to 126 during the week of February 20, 2006. CBP notes that there are currently 131 truck carriers and 14 service bureaus certified to use EDI to file e-Manifests.

ACE Exchange conference in summer 2006. CBP announces that on August 15-17, 2006, the first ACE Exchange conference will be held in Chicago, IL. The conference will feature three days of intensive sessions on ACE benefits and capabilities.

CBP states that the goal of ACE Exchange is to provide information on ACE and allow an open forum of communication between CBP and the trade community. CBP notes that space will be limited and registration will begin on June 1, 2006.
