U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site a notice announcing the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) for peanuts that are provided for in HTS Chapter 12, Additional U.S. Note (AUSN) 2 and entered under HTS 1202.10.4020, 1202.10.4040, 1202.20.4020, 1202.20.4040, 2008.11.2500, and 2008.11.4500 during the April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007 period.

1. 2006-2007 TRQ for Peanuts Opens April 3, 2006

According to CBP, this TRQ will open on Monday, April 3, 2006 at 12 noon, E.D.S.T., or its equivalent in other time zones with the following countries/areas having the following low-duty quantities:

Argentina43,901,000 kg
Other Countries or Areas9,005,000 kg

CBP states that this TRQ is expected to oversubscribe at opening, and filers are advised against using the Automated Clearing House (ACH) as a form of payment. CBP further states that in accordance with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, imported raw peanuts under HTS 1202.10.40, 1202.10.80, 1202.20.40, and 1202.20.80 from the following countries are prohibited from entry: Burkina Faso, China, India, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Japan, Philippines, Senegal, Thailand, and Taiwan. Presentation on ACE and Periodic Monthly Statement. CBP has posted to its Web site an overview of the Periodic Monthly Statement (PMS) feature of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) that is designed to enhance the account based processing of duties and fees. This presentation also includes information pertaining to reports, how to apply to become a participant in ACE and PMS, and where to go for answers to ACE related questions. SENTRI participant arrested for alleged alien smuggling attempt. CBP has issued a press release announcing that a U.S. citizen registered to participate in the Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) program was arrested on March 7, 2006 by CBP officers at the San Ysidro port of entry after they found an undocumented female migrant hidden in the trunk of the vehicle he was driving.
