ACE screening foundation launched. CBP states that rollout of the foundation for a new automated Screening & Targeting (S&T) system in ACE began in December 2005 after a successful review of production readiness capabilities. The screening foundation allows a more in-depth screening of the entries and manifests for air, rail, sea, and truck modes of transportation.

CBP states that the full S&T system will be implemented in four phases that will be built concurrently, with enhancements building upon one another as capabilities are launched. A new targeting application will be launched in spring 2006 and will be capable of integrating international cargo and passenger targeting capabilities across the Department of Homeland Security.

e-Manifest debuts on the southern border. CBP's January 2006 newsletter also announces that the first electronic manifest (e-Manifest) was filed in December 2005 in Nogales, AZ. CBP notes that it took less than 45 seconds for the truck to be processed, much faster than pre- Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) processing.

ACE portal accounts top 1,000, non-portal accounts also on the rise. CBP states that the number of ACE Secure Data Portal accounts surpassed the 1,000 mark in December 2005, and use of new non-portal ACE accounts is also on the rise.

New ACE deployment season begins in Texas. In the newsletter, CBP states that West Texas kicks off the new (ACE) deployment season with launches at ports in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Pharr/Hidalgo, Brownsville, Progresso, Rio Grande, and Roma. CBP states that next up will be clusters of ports in and around El Paso and the Laredo bridges.
