According to the notice, FWS was scheduled to re-open its Wildlife Inspection Office on October 3, 2005 for import/export inspection services at the Port of New Orleans.

However, due to continuing logistics and infrastructure problems in the New Orleans area, FWS states that its office will be operating on an intermittent schedule through Monday, October 16, 2005. FWS states that it anticipates resuming normal operations at that time.

FWS further states that its wildlife inspector assigned to New Orleans will contact local customs brokers, importers/exporters, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to advise them of this schedule and any changes that may occur.

Subscribers should note that October 16, 2005 is a Sunday. BP is checking with FWS sources as to whether the intermittent schedule will continue through Sunday, October 16, 2005 or Monday, October 17, 2005.

(On September 2, 2005, the FWS' Southwest Region Law Enforcement Office announced that until further notice, wildlife inspection operations at the Port of New Orleans would be closed due to Hurricane Katrina.
