2. U.S. and Saudi Arabia Conclude Agreement on Saudi Bid for WTO Membership
The State Department's Washington File reports that the U.S. and Saudi Arabia have concluded a bilateral market access agreement, paving the way for Saudi Arabia to complete its accession bid to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The article notes that as part of the new bilateral agreement, Saudi Arabia has revised many of its trade policies, particularly laws related to intellectual property rights, and lowered tariff and nontariff trade barriers. 3. NCBFAA Posts "Door Delivery" Position Paper to its Web Site
The National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA) has posted a "Door Delivery" position paper to its Web site. According to the paper, carriers increasingly sell through services to inland points to shippers and importers. NCBFAA notes that as per the "terms and conditions" of the ocean carriers bill of lading the responsibility for the inland cost and arrangement are the obligation of the carrier. Once the freight is accepted under these booking arrangements, the customs broker has no obligation or involvement in the delivery. 4. FDA Recalls Fancy Whole Basil Due to Possible Health Risk
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has posted to its Web site a Talk Paper advising processors and repackers that Majestic International Spice Corporation of Montebello, CA is voluntarily recalling its dried "Extra Fancy Basil" spice in 12.5 kilogram bags because the FDA found the product contaminated with Salmonella Blockley. 5. PMHSA Meeting to Prepare for Upcoming ICAO Dangerous Goods Panel
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has announced that on October 18, 2005 in Washington, DC it will be conducting a public meeting in preparation for the 20th meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO's) Dangerous Goods Panel to be held October 24-Novembr 4, 2005 in Montreal, Canada.
