CBP Administrative Messages, Web Postings, Etc.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site the June 2005 issue of its U.S. Customs and Border Protection Modernization newsletter, which discusses, among other things, the fact that a number of companies are using or preparing to use electronic truck manifests (e-Manifests) through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) messaging. Certified carriers include: ABF Freight System, Inc., Brownline Trucking, Celadon Trucking Services, FedEx Custom Critical, and United Parcel Service (UPS). CBP states that certified service providers include: Crimson Logic, MSR Customs Corporation, Oceanwide, Sectra, Smart Border, and ViaSafe. CBP notes that UPS has been submitting truck manifests via EDI since April 2005. See CBP's newsletter for additional articles, including articles on the deployment of ACE to the southern border and the increasing popularity of periodic payment.
