Deadline for Filing Appeals for the April 2005 Customs Broker Exam Has Been Extended to July 22, 2005
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site a notice announcing that the deadline for filing appeals for the April 2005 Customs broker exam has been extended to July 22, 2005. According to CBP, all appeals must be postmarked on or before July 22, 2005 to be considered timely.

(According to 19 CFR 111.14(f), if an examinee fails to attain a passing grade on the Customs broker exam, the examinee may challenge that result by filing a written appeal with CBP within 60 calendar days after the date of the written notice of the result of the exam.)
Basis for appeal. CBP states that the applicant must submit a compelling argument why his or her answer is better than the official answer for a specific question or why the appealed question has no possible correct answer.
Appeal package. CBP states that the following must be in the appeal package:
A cover letter stating the applicant's name and address, date and location of the examination, and the specific question(s) being appealed;
A copy of the letter from CBP providing the applicant's score;
A copy of the applicant's answer sheet; and
Arguments, in the required format, for each question appealed.
Required format for appeal arguments. According to CBP, the following is the required format for appeal arguments:
The applicant's name, examination site, examination date, and question appealed must appear at the top of each page
Each question appealed must be addressed on a separate page or pages (different questions must not be argued on the same page)

Rejection of appeals. According to CBP, an appeal package will be rejected if it:
Is incomplete, is untimely, or is in the wrong format
Includes any arguments written by another person
Does not provide supporting arguments
Argues for an answer the applicant did not select
Contests an incomplete erasure or insufficient marking on the applicant's answer sheet
