(According to National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA) Web site, an SCAC is a unique two-to-four-letter code used to identify transportation companies. The SCAC application states that the SCAC must be renewed annually every July 1 following the year of assignment, and that a renewal notice will be sent approximately 30 days in advance of the due date.)

ABI Filers Can Assist By Reminding Their Carriers of Annual SCAC Renewal

According to CBP, NMFTA has started to send out SCAC renewal notices. CBP advises ABI filers to remind their clients that they need to renew their SCAC for the year if they have not already done so to avoid disruptions and/or having the SCAC reassigned to another company. CBP notes that there are a number of carriers who have not renewed their SCAC and those codes will become eligible for reassignment if not renewed.

Carriers May Renew Their SCAC on NMFTA Web Site

CBP states that the best way for carriers to renew their SCAC is through the NMFTA Web site at www.nmfta.org using the NMFTA EasyPay system. Alternatively, NMFTA can be contacted directly at (703) 838-1810.

Carriers Should Send Copies of Confirmation Letters to CBP

Once the carrier receives its confirmation letter, a copy should be sent to CBP via fax, mail, or email (as a 'tif' or 'pdf' file attachment) at the following:
