On February 18, 2005, President Bush announced his intention to designate Peter Allgeier to be Acting U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). According to the State Department's Washington File, Ambassador Allgeier will serve in place of outgoing USTR Robert Zoellick, who has been nominated as deputy Secretary of State. 2. U.S. Supports Sanctions Imposed on Togo by West African States
The State Department has issued a press release stating that the U.S. supports the decision by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to impose sanctions on the Gnassingbe regime in Togo. The release notes that the U.S. is reviewing all aspects of its relations with Togo in order to identify further means of supporting the actions of ECOWAS. 3. CPSC Announces Polaris Industries Inc. to Pay $950,000 Penalty
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a press release stating that Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, MN, has agreed to pay a $950,000 civil penalty to settle allegations that the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) manufacturer failed to timely inform CPSC of serious defects and hazards in certain models of its ATVs.
