The FCC event will pair panel discussions on a range of hot-button topics with an exhibition hall for vendors to showcase their wares, an IB spokeswoman said. Details of the day-long event haven’t been nailed down, but the IB is especially interested in presenting practical information and case studies about the future of satellite-based broadband Internet service and the translation of satellite technology to end users, officials said. Last year’s forum concentrated on how satellites serve rural customers. The event drew participants from Capitol Hill, satellite and related industries and consumer advocacy groups, the spokeswoman said.

That evening, a 3-hour course on satellite communications law will be hosted by the Satellite Industry Assn. (SIA), Satellite Bcstg. & Communications Assn (SBCA). and the Federal Communications Bar Assn. (FCBA), SIA Exec. Dir. David Cavossa told us. The event will be at Shaw Pittman hq and registration will be available through FCBA’s website. That’s followed March 22 by an all-day Media Law Forum at the National Press Club. The forum, spearheaded by the SBCA, will include panel discussions with lawmakers, regulators, lobbyists, press and multichannel and telecom industry executives, SBCA said.

Satellite 2005, the annual satellite industry smorgasbord, will be at the Washington Convention Center March 22-25. The conference is to include more than 50 conference sessions, 260 presentations and 200 exhibitors. Organizers anticipate more than 6,000 attendees. Session topics include the U.S. export control system, the industry’s stake in Telecom Act reauthorization, copyright issues, international satellite financing, military & commercial relationships and more.

Nighttime activities will be plentiful: SIA and SBCA are sponsoring their annual Satellite Leadership Dinner at the Folger Shakespeare Library March 22 and the Society of Satellite Professionals International will host its black- tie gala on March 23. The SIA-SBCA event draws about 180 executives, while the SSPI gala attracts more than 1,200 revelers.
