The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a press release announcing that the signing of the U.S.-Morocco Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which was previously scheduled for June 11, 2004, has been postponed until June 15, 2004. 2. USTR Praises Japan's Market-Opening Reforms & Urges More Progress
The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a press release praising Japan for the significant deregulation it has achieved over the past year to bolster its economy and open markets to U.S. exports. According to the USTR, the deregulation steps include measures that have substantially lowered retail rates for calling mobile phones, will increase consumer choice in innovative medicines, and should expand meaningful public input into regulatory decision-making. 3. BIS' MTAC to Hold A Partially Open Meeting on July 15, 2004
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a notice stating that the Materials Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC) will hold a partially open meeting on July 15, 2004 in Washington, D.C. MTAC advises the Assistant Secretary for Export Administration with respect to technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to materials and related technology. 4. BIS Publishes ALJ's Recommended Decision and Order for Arian
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has published the recommended decision and order of the administrative law judge (ALJ), which was inadvertently not published with the order denying the export privileges of Arian Transportvermittlungs GmbH (Arian) for ten years. 5. Homeland Security Advisory Council to Hold Partially Open Meeting
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a notice announcing that the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) will hold a partially open meeting on June 17, 2004 in Washington, DC in order to, among other things, deliberate on recommendations of the Task Force on state and local funding and receive reports from senior advisory committees. 6. Further Details on CBP's Notice on Pilot of ACE Account Revenue Pilot
Although CBP's notice on the pilot test of ACE account revenue features stated that the pilot would last for three months, U.S. government sources have stated that the pilot, which began on June 14, 2004, is expected to conclude at the end of August or beginning of September 2004, which could make the expected duration of the pilot less than three months.
